In 2008, Craigavon Borough Council and the Craigavon Community Safety Partnership in conjunction with Craigavon Police developed and distributed leaflets and posters giving information about CCTV cameras in operation in the Borough and advice on how to keep safe and valuables protected when out and about.
There are 20 CCTV cameras currently operating within the Borough with the cameras will assist with the prevention of crime and detection of offenders.
The personal safety section of the leaflet gave tips on how to protect purses and wallets from being lost and stolen, the reporting of suspicious behaviour, parking in well lit areas near to CCTV cameras and advising vulnerable individuals to carry personal alarms.
This campaign was further promoted in 2011 when 4 new cameras were installed in Lurgan and Portadown – 2 in each town. Press releases were included in local newspapers to promote the initiative.
